Ripple has expanded its XRP Ledger developer kit to support the Machine Payments Protocol, a payment standard created by Stripe and Tempo that allows AI agents to pay for data, computing and other online services using crypto.
Version 1.1 of the XRPL AI Starter Kit adds support for MPP alongside the Open Wallet Standard, which enables software to manage wallets across multiple blockchains through a common interface, according to a RippleX developer post.
The integration gives developers building AI-driven applications another way to use XRP and RLUSD for machine-to-machine payments. Under MPP, an AI agent can request a service, receive a price, authorize payment and then receive the requested resource.
Ripple had already added support for x402, another web payment standard, in June. Supporting both x402 and MPP allows developers using either protocol to accept payments through the XRP Ledger rather than requiring Ripple to rely on a single standard.
The move could expand the potential role of XRP and RLUSD in applications where AI agents need to make automated payments for individual requests. For developers building around Stripe and Tempo’s open protocol, the integration provides an additional blockchain-based payment option without requiring the payment standard itself to be tied to a specific blockchain.
