Bitcoin is trading around $77,500 as markets enter a period of uncertainty ahead of Friday’s U.S. nonfarm payrolls report, with investors focused on whether upcoming labor data could reshape expectations for the Federal Reserve’s next policy decision.
The main question for markets is whether employment data will strengthen or weaken expectations around future Fed policy. Current CME FedWatch expectations show markets pricing in approximately a 64% probability of a rate hike, while the remaining probability is largely centered on the Federal Reserve keeping rates unchanged.
Recent labor market data has already raised questions about economic momentum. August ADP private payrolls increased by 38,000, below the 47,000 forecast, suggesting some signs of weakness in employment conditions. However, markets remain positioned toward the possibility of tighter monetary policy, making Friday’s nonfarm payrolls report a critical event for Bitcoin and broader risk assets.
Economists expect the report to show approximately 53,000 new jobs, with unemployment remaining near 4.1%. A stronger-than-expected employment figure could reinforce expectations for a rate hike, potentially creating additional pressure on Bitcoin as higher rates typically reduce demand for risk-sensitive assets.
On the other hand, weaker employment data could reduce expectations for further tightening and increase the possibility of unchanged rates, a scenario that may provide support for Bitcoin by improving sentiment toward risk assets.
Alongside macroeconomic uncertainty, Bitcoin continues to maintain dominance within the crypto market. Bitcoin dominance has risen to 59.7%, indicating that capital remains concentrated in the largest digital asset rather than moving broadly into altcoins.
Ethereum dominance currently stands at 11.2%, while the rest of the crypto market accounts for approximately 29.1%. The distribution suggests investors remain cautious and continue to favor Bitcoin exposure over higher-risk segments of the market.
From a technical perspective, Bitcoin is currently testing the $77,500 resistance level while holding above the nearby support zone between $76,200 and $76,500. A stronger jobs report could increase selling pressure and push Bitcoin back toward that support area.
Conversely, weaker employment data could reduce rate-hike expectations and provide the catalyst needed for Bitcoin to move beyond the $77,500 resistance level. The reaction to the jobs report will likely determine whether Bitcoin remains trapped in its current range or attempts a broader move.
The market is now positioned between a key technical level and a major macroeconomic event. Friday’s employment data will provide a clearer signal on whether Federal Reserve expectations continue to weigh on Bitcoin or whether changing rate expectations create room for renewed upside momentum.
