Bitcoin is struggling to regain bullish momentum near $81,600 as traders assess the outlook for US monetary policy and prepare for the Federal Reserve’s upcoming October meeting. With BTC trading close to the lower end of its recent range, the next policy decision could influence whether the market stages a recovery or faces another wave of selling pressure.
The Federal Reserve’s decision is a key factor for crypto markets. Investors are weighing two main scenarios: another interest-rate hike or a decision to keep rates unchanged. Higher rates can strengthen the US dollar and make risk-sensitive assets such as Bitcoin less attractive, potentially increasing selling pressure. However, the market reaction will also depend on whether a rate hike is expected or comes as a surprise.
If the Fed keeps rates unchanged, Bitcoin could receive some support, particularly if policymakers signal a less hawkish outlook for future monetary policy. However, holding rates steady would not automatically trigger a rally. Cautious guidance, persistent inflation concerns or expectations of tighter policy ahead could limit any recovery.
From a technical perspective, the $80,700–$81,000 area is an important near-term support zone. A sustained move below this range could expose Bitcoin to further downside and weaken the short-term market structure. If buyers defend this area, BTC may attempt to recover toward the $82,000–$82,500 resistance zone, where renewed selling could emerge.
The more significant barrier lies around $84,400–$84,800. A decisive breakout above this region would strengthen the recovery case and potentially open the way toward higher resistance levels. Until that happens, rebounds may remain vulnerable to selling, particularly if the Fed delivers a more hawkish message than markets anticipate.
The key question is whether buyers can defend support and reclaim nearby resistance while navigating uncertainty over interest rates. A break below support would increase downside risks, while a sustained move above $84,800 would provide stronger evidence that bullish momentum is returning.
