Zcash (ZEC) has surged above the $1,200 level after gaining more than 45% in just one week, reaching around $1,249 and marking its highest price level since late 2016.
The sharp rally pushed Zcash’s market capitalization to approximately $20.4 billion, briefly allowing ZEC to overtake HYPE and reach the ninth position among the largest cryptocurrencies by market value.
One of the main factors behind the move has been growing investor attention toward the Grayscale Zcash ETF, which has provided traditional investors with easier access to ZEC exposure through a regulated investment product.
The Grayscale Zcash ETF, trading under the ticker ZCSH, was converted from the company’s previous Zcash Trust into an ETF on August 25. The fund’s assets under management increased significantly after the conversion, reaching approximately $463.2 million by September 4, compared with around $260 million at the time of conversion.
The ETF currently holds 444,608 ZEC, highlighting increasing institutional exposure toward the privacy-focused cryptocurrency.
The rapid price increase also triggered significant liquidations in leveraged positions. More than $24 million worth of positions were liquidated during the move, with approximately $17.5 million coming from short positions. The forced closure of bearish bets added additional buying pressure and accelerated the upward momentum.
Beyond ETF demand and market dynamics, another narrative has emerged around privacy-focused cryptocurrencies. As artificial intelligence and AGI development continue advancing, some investors are becoming more concerned about transaction privacy and digital surveillance, increasing attention toward assets designed to offer stronger privacy features.
Zcash’s recent rally highlights the combination of institutional access, market positioning, and renewed interest in privacy technologies. However, the key question now is whether the current momentum can continue or whether traders will begin taking profits after such a sharp move.
