Former FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn his conviction, arguing that his trial was unfair and that key evidence was not properly considered.
Bankman-Fried, who is currently serving a 25-year prison sentence, claims that the court prevented him from presenting evidence showing that FTX and Alameda Research ultimately had enough assets to repay customers.
His legal team argues that this evidence could have changed the outcome of the trial by challenging the government’s argument that customers suffered permanent losses.
The former crypto executive is also seeking to overturn the approximately $11 billion forfeiture order linked to the case.
Bankman-Fried was convicted in 2023 on multiple counts related to fraud and conspiracy following the collapse of FTX, one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges at the time.
The Supreme Court will first decide whether to review the appeal. If the court declines to hear the case, the existing conviction and sentence will remain in place.
