PayPal, M0, and MoonPay have officially launched PYUSDx, a new infrastructure platform that allows companies and blockchain projects to create their own customized stablecoins backed by PayPal USD (PYUSD).
The platform aims to expand PYUSD beyond a traditional stablecoin by turning it into a broader financial infrastructure layer. Businesses can use PYUSD as the underlying reserve asset while creating stablecoins designed for specific applications and ecosystems.
Three projects — Saturn, Concrete, and Cap — are already live on PYUSDx, with total processed volume exceeding $100 million since launch.
The new infrastructure allows companies to build branded digital dollars while benefiting from PYUSD’s liquidity and reserve framework. Instead of creating completely independent stablecoins, projects can use PYUSD as the foundation behind their own customized products.
The launch is part of PayPal’s broader strategy to strengthen its position in the digital payments and blockchain sector. By enabling other companies to build on top of PYUSD, PayPal is attempting to transform the stablecoin from a standalone payment product into a wider ecosystem infrastructure.
Stablecoins have become one of the fastest-growing sectors in crypto, with companies increasingly exploring digital dollars for payments, decentralized finance, and financial applications.
For PayPal, the success of PYUSDx will depend on whether developers and businesses adopt the platform and whether PYUSD can gain a larger role in the competitive stablecoin market.
The key question now is whether PYUSDx can become a major infrastructure layer for custom stablecoins or remain a niche solution within the expanding digital dollar ecosystem.
