Ethereum recorded a 32.5% gain in August, marking its strongest monthly performance since July 2025, as increased demand from major market participants supported the rally. The move was accompanied by $1.85 billion in net inflows into U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs and the accumulation of 430,000 ETH by large holders, highlighting stronger participation from investors with significant market exposure.
The recent price advance appears to have been supported by demand concentrated among larger market participants. ETF inflows provided additional exposure through regulated investment products, while large-holder accumulation signaled continued interest from investors increasing their Ethereum positions.
Corporate exposure also expanded during the period. BitMine added 53,501 ETH, bringing its total holdings to 5.9 million ETH. At the same time, retail holders reduced their exposure, creating a divergence between different segments of the market. This suggests that recent demand has been driven more prominently by larger participants rather than broad-based accumulation across all investor groups.
Ethereum’s staking participation remains another important factor influencing market structure. A larger amount of ETH committed to network validation can affect the amount of immediately available supply in the market. Combined with increased accumulation from large holders, this dynamic may contribute to greater sensitivity between supply availability and changes in demand.
Despite the strong monthly performance, Ethereum continues to face a key technical challenge near the $2,550 resistance level. A sustained move above this area could reinforce the current recovery trend and signal continued strength, while failure to break through resistance may raise questions about whether recent momentum can continue without additional buying pressure.
The current market structure presents two possible scenarios. Continued ETF demand and large-holder accumulation could support Ethereum’s attempt to move beyond resistance and extend its recovery. However, if buying momentum weakens near $2,550, the market may enter another consolidation phase as traders reassess demand strength and positioning.
The next focus for Ethereum is whether recent accumulation trends can translate into a sustained breakout above resistance. The ability to convert strong institutional and large-holder demand into continued price momentum will likely determine the next phase of Ethereum’s market direction.
