Charles Hoskinson, founder of Cardano, said blockchain and cryptocurrencies could become a key part of artificial intelligence infrastructure over the next five to 10 years. His outlook points to a future in which AI systems increasingly rely on crypto networks for payments, data provenance and coordination.
Hoskinson said blockchain could enable automated payments between AI systems, track the provenance of data and allow content creators to receive compensation when their work is used by AI. Such applications could give blockchain a broader role as AI systems become more autonomous.
He also argued that the high cost of building data centers and growing electricity constraints could eventually reshape AI infrastructure. Instead of relying primarily on large centralized facilities, some computing workloads could be distributed across personal devices and other decentralized processors.
In that scenario, blockchain could serve as the coordination and payment layer connecting distributed computing resources. While the timeline and scale of such adoption remain uncertain, Hoskinson’s prediction highlights a potential convergence between crypto infrastructure and the rapidly expanding AI economy.
