Wallets linked to the U.S. government moved more than $100 million worth of cryptocurrency on Tuesday, including approximately $71.6 million in Bitcoin and $31.6 million in BNB, according to data from Arkham. The transfers involved assets previously seized through criminal and enforcement cases.
A total of 833.599 BTC was transferred, with the Bitcoin ultimately reaching addresses identified by Arkham as being associated with Coinbase Prime. A significant portion of the transferred BTC originated from the Potapenko-Turogin forfeiture case and the Bitfinex hack.
At the same time, approximately 40,285 BNB was moved from a wallet linked to the U.S. government. The BNB originated from assets seized from Alameda Research.
The movements have drawn attention because transfers of seized assets to addresses associated with an exchange can raise questions about potential liquidation. However, no sale has been confirmed. A transfer to an exchange does not necessarily mean that the assets are being sold, and there is currently no definitive evidence that the U.S. government has liquidated the transferred Bitcoin or BNB.
The transactions nevertheless highlight the scale of the U.S. government’s cryptocurrency holdings. According to the figures cited in the source, the government currently holds approximately $27.5 billion in seized digital assets.
The immediate market focus will be on the destination and subsequent movement of the transferred assets. Any confirmed sale could carry different implications from a routine custody or asset-management transfer, making on-chain activity around the receiving addresses important to monitor.
