South Korea's Defense Ministry plans to expand its naval presence near the Strait of Hormuz, deploying 75 additional personnel and increasing its total force in the region to 395.
The planned deployment also includes a P-8A maritime patrol aircraft, mine-detection and clearance equipment, and an explosive ordnance disposal team.
Seoul says the mission aims to protect commercial vessels and maritime shipping routes, emphasizing that it does not intend to become involved in a war with Iran.
However, the deployment plan still requires parliamentary approval. The move highlights South Korea's efforts to strengthen maritime security around a strategically important shipping corridor.
