U.S. President Donald Trump says he has reached an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin for Russia to supply millions of tons of diesel fuel to the United States and global markets. Trump claims the additional supply will help drive fuel prices down rapidly.
In a statement on Truth Social, Trump said Russia would immediately provide more than 300,000 tons of diesel, followed by another 500,000 tons during November and an additional one million tons shortly afterward. He also said Russia would deliver a further three million tons of diesel in a short period, citing the condition of diesel refineries.
Trump linked the proposed supply increase to what he described as U.S. control over the Strait of Hormuz. He argued that the combination of additional Russian fuel and control of the strategic shipping route would lead to a rapid decline in diesel prices in the United States and around the world.
He identified lower fuel costs for American farmers, ranchers, and truck drivers as a major priority, highlighting the importance of diesel prices to transportation, agriculture, and other fuel-dependent industries.
Trump also reiterated that Iran would not be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons, connecting the issue to the broader regional situation.
The proposed Russian supply would represent a significant volume of additional diesel for international markets if delivered as described. However, the timing and scale of the shipments, along with their potential impact on fuel prices, remain dependent on the implementation of the stated arrangement.
