Shibarium, the Ethereum layer-2 network associated with the Shiba Inu ecosystem, recorded a 151% increase in daily transactions on October 9, reaching 2,438 after processing just 970 transactions the previous day. Despite the sharp percentage gain, network activity remains volatile, with the latest reported daily count falling to 1,142 transactions on October 10. The figures suggest a short-term recovery from unusually weak activity rather than a sustained expansion in network demand.
The rebound followed several consecutive days of declining transaction activity. Shibarium processed 5,711 transactions on October 6 before dropping to 1,323 on October 7 and 970 on October 8. Although the October 9 increase temporarily reversed that decline, the subsequent fall to 1,142 transactions left daily activity approximately 80% below the October 6 level. The rapid fluctuations indicate that the network has yet to establish a consistent upward trend in transaction demand.
A broader comparison reinforces that assessment. Shibarium processed approximately 59,800 transactions over the preceding 31 days, equivalent to an average of 1,928 transactions per day. The October 10 reading of 1,142 transactions was roughly 41% below that average, indicating that the network's latest activity remains subdued even after the reported rebound. The distinction is important because percentage increases measured against unusually low starting points can exaggerate the appearance of underlying growth.
Network utilization provides another indication of Shibarium's current operating conditions. According to Shibariumscan, utilization stands near 0.027%, suggesting that the network is using only a small fraction of its available transaction-processing capacity. Shibarium produces a new block approximately every five seconds, generating more than 17,000 blocks daily. At the latest transaction rate, that translates to roughly one transaction for every 15 blocks produced, although actual transactions may be distributed unevenly across blocks.
Low utilization does not necessarily indicate a technical problem. Blockchain networks can continue producing blocks even when transaction demand is limited, and unused capacity does not directly imply a failure in network operations. However, persistently low utilization suggests that Shibarium's existing infrastructure has substantially more processing capacity than current activity requires. Even at the reported monthly average of 1,928 daily transactions, the network would process approximately one transaction for every nine blocks.
For the Shiba Inu ecosystem, the distinction between a temporary transaction spike and sustained network adoption is significant. Consistent growth in transaction activity would provide stronger evidence of increasing demand for Shibarium's infrastructure, while repeated fluctuations around relatively low levels would suggest that usage remains uneven. The latest figures do not establish a lasting improvement in adoption or provide sufficient evidence to infer a corresponding change in SHIB market demand.
The immediate focus is whether Shibarium can sustain daily transaction counts above its 1,928 monthly average and begin improving utilization from the current 0.027% level. A sustained recovery toward the 5,711 transactions recorded on October 6 would strengthen the case for renewed network activity. Until transaction growth becomes more consistent, the October 9 surge is better interpreted as a rebound from a depressed baseline than confirmation of a broader recovery.
