BlackRock’s digital asset business recorded a strong recovery in the third quarter, with its crypto-related assets under management rising significantly as improving market conditions and renewed investor demand helped reverse losses from the first half of the year.
The asset manager reported $79.6 billion in digital assets under management at the end of September, representing a 63% increase from $48.8 billion at the end of June. The growth reflected both the recovery in crypto asset prices and fresh capital inflows into BlackRock’s digital investment products.
Investors added approximately $7.9 billion to BlackRock’s crypto products during the quarter, offsetting the roughly $2.2 billion in outflows recorded during the first six months of 2026. The shift highlights renewed confidence among investors as the broader crypto market recovered from earlier weakness.
Market performance remained the primary driver behind the increase in assets. Of the $30.8 billion growth recorded during the quarter, approximately $22.9 billion came from rising asset values, while new investor allocations contributed another $7.9 billion.
Despite the strong quarterly recovery, BlackRock’s crypto assets remain below their previous peak. The company managed nearly $104 billion in digital assets a year earlier, meaning current holdings are still around 23% lower than the previous high.
The decline over the past year was largely connected to market valuation changes rather than a lack of investor interest. BlackRock’s digital asset products attracted approximately $6.3 billion in net new investments over the last 12 months, but market declines reduced the overall value of those holdings by roughly $30.6 billion.
The figures highlight an important factor in the growth of institutional crypto products: asset managers remain heavily influenced by the performance of the underlying digital assets. Even with consistent capital inflows, market downturns can significantly impact total assets under management.
BlackRock’s growing presence in crypto continues to reflect the broader institutional shift toward digital assets. Through products such as its Bitcoin ETF, the company has become one of the largest traditional financial firms offering regulated exposure to cryptocurrencies.
During the quarter, BlackRock generated approximately $39 million in fees and securities lending revenue from its digital asset products, showing that crypto-related offerings are becoming a meaningful part of the company’s broader investment business.
The recovery in BlackRock’s crypto assets suggests that institutional interest remains resilient despite market volatility. However, reaching previous highs will likely depend on continued price appreciation, sustained investor demand, and broader acceptance of digital assets within traditional financial markets.
