Ethereum is attempting to stabilize near $2,400 after a sustained decline from its September highs, but recent price action has yet to establish a convincing bullish reversal. ETH traded near $2,405, while daily candles showed continued selling pressure and difficulty reclaiming previously established price levels. The immediate challenge is whether buyers can defend the $2,350–$2,320 region and build enough momentum to recover the resistance zones above.
The daily structure remains under pressure. Ethereum reached a recent high near $2,806 on September 21 before retreating toward $2,700 in early October. Subsequent declines carried the asset below $2,600 and $2,500, with the October 15 session recording a low near $2,321 on a major market data feed. This sequence of lower price levels indicates that sellers have maintained the advantage over the broader recent move, even as short-term rebounds have periodically interrupted the decline.
The first important test lies around $2,350–$2,320. This zone is supported by recent intraday lows, making it a meaningful area for evaluating whether demand is returning. A sustained defense of this region could allow ETH to consolidate and attempt a recovery. However, an intraday bounce alone would not establish a trend reversal. Stronger evidence would require successive higher lows and a reclaim of nearby resistance. A confirmed daily close below this support region would weaken the stabilization outlook and expose Ethereum to further downside, although the next major support cannot be established confidently from the available price data.
On the upside, the $2,440–$2,490 region represents an important recovery hurdle. Recent trading showed resistance developing around the October 15–17 opening and closing prices, while the October 16 session reached a high near $2,490 before retreating. Reclaiming this region and holding it during a subsequent retest would provide stronger evidence that buyers are regaining control. Such a move could bring the $2,500–$2,540 region into focus, where recent trading also showed selling pressure. Until these levels are recovered, any advance remains vulnerable to another rejection rather than representing a confirmed bullish breakout.
Momentum indicators offer limited grounds for declaring the decline exhausted. A technical snapshot published on October 18 placed the daily Relative Strength Index near 37, indicating weak momentum approaching oversold territory. However, this reading is not sufficient on its own to confirm a market bottom. The same snapshot showed ETH trading below its 50-period exponential moving average but above its 200-period average. This combination suggests short-term weakness without conclusive evidence that the broader trend has broken down across the longer moving-average structure.
The outlook therefore remains conditional. If Ethereum holds its recent lows and establishes a daily close above $2,490, the recovery case would strengthen, particularly if subsequent price action preserves the reclaimed zone. Conversely, a confirmed breakdown below $2,320 would undermine the stabilization thesis and leave the market searching for lower support. If ETH remains between these boundaries, sideways consolidation with a bearish near-term bias remains a reasonable interpretation. The decisive evidence will come from confirmed candle closes and sustained follow-through, rather than isolated price spikes.
